Эссе: Growth of cities / technical progress is harmful for the environment

In recent years, new environmental problems have emerged and certain existing ones have gained in importance. Some people believe that urban growth is very dangerous for nature and the future of entire humanity. However, others say that it is not a big problem as it cannot affect (impact) the Earth. I think that ecological problems are mostly related to the growth of cities and the reasons for my opinion are as follows. Firstly, it is common knowledge that factories in cities pollute the environment with waste waters and emissions containing very high concentrations of toxicants, which results in the continuous worsening of nature condition. Secondly, the increasing number of cities leads to deforestation that can cause the extinction of plant and animal species. However, some people think otherwise. The opponents of the above view are convinced that there are a lot of different ways to save our environment from pollution such as the use of electromobiles and solar panels and closed cycle factories. Thus, there is no point worrying about urbanization. I am afraid I cannot agree with the above argument. I believe that it is not easy to solve environmental problems even with the help of modern technologies because at present, they can hardly be introduced to every sphere of production and it could be too late with time. To sum up, I am firmly convinced that the growth of cities should be controlled irrespective of the opposing opinion. We should remember that future generations will suffer later because of our inappropriate attitude to urbanization.
