Эссе: Governments should not organize lotteries

One issue that has caused a lot of controversy over the years is whether government should be involved in public health control or not. For instance, while some people believe that excessive sugary drink consumption has to be under government’s regulation, others claim that it should not be their concern at all. Let us consider both opinions in more detail. Personally, I am sure that governments do not need to limit the volume of a sugary drink container. First of all, it will not solve the problem of public health worsening because it is not caused by just consuming too much sugar. There are a great number of other harmful additions and substances in foodstuff nowadays. Secondly, it is people’s decision whether to be healthy or not in the end. So, it is up to humans to either have sugary drinks or not, and the government’s decision to lessen the size of a bottle will not make much difference for them. However, some people disagree. They believe that while the current size of soft drink containers exists, people will not stop consuming them and public health will not improve since such liquids cause obesity and other diseases. Still I cannot share this opinion. I think that governments had better promote other healthy lifestyle directions, outdoor activities like running, for instance. To sum up, despite all the mentioned above, I still believe that the soft drink consumption should not be under government’s jurisdiction and that lessening the size of their containers will not solve the problem. I am convinced that being healthy should be a person’s concern and no one else’s.
